001 is the first design resulting from the collaboration between Peter Halley and Yellowpop and translates into the medium of light the geometric vocabulary that has defined the artist’s work since the 1980s. Concentric rectangles and vertical modules evoke his well-known “cells,” “prisons,” and “ducts”—structures through which Halley reflects on the organization and compartmentalization of contemporary space. The use of LEDs in intense shades of green, violet, blue, red, and orange serves as a particularly coherent extension of his longstanding exploration of fluorescent and Day-Glo colors.

Peter Halley is a central figure in the renewal of American geometric abstraction linked to Neo-Geo and the neoconceptualism of the 1980s. A Yale graduate with an MFA from the University of New Orleans, he has also been active as a writer, editor, and educator. In 1992, the Reina Sofía Museum dedicated a solo exhibition to him, as part of a touring exhibition that included the CAPC in Bordeaux and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. His work is represented in collections such as the MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and the Fondation Cartier in Paris.
