DESCRIPTION

SORINI E CASI. Arezzo, Italy, second half of the 20th century.
Pair of clown figurines.
925 sterling silver and polychrome enamel.
Marked “925” and bearing the Italian manufacturer’s hallmark “★ 105 AR,” corresponding to Sorini e Casi, Arezzo. Signed “Sorini.”
Approximate combined weight: 540 g.
Very good overall condition, with slight marks and a soft patina on the silver. Enamels are well preserved, with minimal signs of use.
Measurements: clown with flower, 14 x 5.5 x 5.5 cm; clown with unicycle, 12 x 5.5 x 5.5 cm.

A pair of figurines designed with a distinctly theatrical and humorous character. One of the clowns holds a large flower attached by a sinuous metal stem, while the second is depicted leaning on a small unicycle. The detailed modeling of the faces, clothing, and accessories is combined with vivid blue, yellow, red, green, and pink enamels, whose contrast with the polished silver reinforces the playful character of the set.

Sorini e Casi was a goldsmith’s workshop established in Arezzo by Pietro Sorini and Ilario Casi, registered since 1970 with the hallmark “105 AR.” As part of the important silversmithing district in the Tuscan city, the firm specialized in producing small sculptural and decorative objects in precious metals, notably its characteristic clown figures made of silver, enamel, and, on occasion, Murano glass.
