Alix Marquet was a prominent French sculptor and painter known primarily for his detailed bronze and marble figures in the realist and classicist styles. Born in Oudan (Nièvre), he spent much of his career in Paris and at his studio in Prémery, occasionally signing his works under the pseudonym Marc Aluet. He served as vice president of the prestigious Société des Artistes Français and of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was awarded the title of Officer of the French Legion of Honor.
Among his most important works are *L'Imploration* (1901), *Fin de Labeur* (1903), and the *Monument to the Fallen of Nevers* (1923). His subject matter ranged from mythological figures and literary myths (such as *Le Rocher de Sisyphe*) to delicate female nudes and busts.
