BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JORDI ALCARAZ (Calella, Barcelona, 1963).
Untitled.
Painted ceramic and methacrylate.
Provenance: acquired directly from the artist.

Particularly representative of Jordi Alcaraz’s artistic language, this work creates a tension between the physical forcefulness of the material and the apparent immateriality of space. The ceramic vessel, deliberately elementary in character and crisscrossed by white, gestural-looking lines, is partially enveloped by a transparent methacrylate structure that alters its boundaries and modifies the perception of volume.

The contrast between the opacity of the ceramic and the transparency of the methacrylate transforms the space surrounding the object into an active component of the work. Alcaraz thus transcends the traditional boundaries between painting and sculpture: the painterly gesture extends across the ceramic volume, while the methacrylate introduces reflections, voids, and overlays that cause its interpretation to shift depending on the viewer’s perspective. This exploration of matter, volume, and seemingly hidden spaces constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of his career.

Since the 1980s, Jordi Alcaraz has been developing a body of work situated at the intersection of sculpture, painting, and visual poetry, characterized by experimentation with materials and a constant reflection on space and perception. He has held solo exhibitions at major international institutions and galleries, including NF Galería (Madrid), Jack Rutberg Fine Arts (Los Angeles), Galerie Stefan Vogdt (Munich), and Galería Joan Prats (Barcelona), and frequently participates in leading art fairs such as ARCO, Art Cologne, and Art Miami. His work is included in major public collections such as the Fundació Vila Casas and MACBA.
