In this work, Ezequiel Martínez Llaser creates a striking contrast between the appearance of solidity and permanence associated with gold and the idea of vulnerability expressed by the word “FRAGIL.” The surface, meticulously gilded with gold leaf, traditionally evokes luxury, power, and durability, while the central fuchsia-pink element visually replicates the language of packing tape used to mark fragile objects during handling and transport.
The piece also functions as an object of an ambivalent nature: thanks to its four-centimeter depth, it can be displayed on its own on a pedestal or shelf, or mounted on a wall. This dual nature reinforces the conceptual interplay between art object, protected merchandise, and visual warning, shifting an everyday code associated with the transport of artworks into the realm of reflection on fragility.
Trained in Art and Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Paris VIII, Ezequiel Martínez Llaser develops a practice in which conceptual reflection and pictorial technique maintain a constant dialogue. His work has been featured in several editions of The MEAM Hall at the Museu Europeu d’Art Modern in Barcelona, as well as at the Salon International du Portrait at the Bastille Design Center in Paris and at the Florence Biennale. He has also exhibited at venues such as Galerie Sonia Monti, Galería Azur, Galerie Art Course, and Espace 6B in Paris.
