Renaissance capital, 16th century.

Renaissance capital, 16th century.
Sandstone.
Dimensions: 27.5 x 36.5 x 32 cm.
A Doric capital, though reinterpreted and enriched by Renaissance aesthetic principles, which reimagined Greek and Roman capitals. In this case, the chiseled drum featuring an arch-like frieze rises from the molding that crowns the shaft, and above it, the abacus rests on a vegetal corbel that blends Doric and Ionic elements, though the volutes are not fully defined.
