In this self-portrait, Lídia Vives explores the cinematographic archetype of the "femme fatale" from a contemporary and autobiographical point of view.
contemporary and autobiographical point of view. The staging, with a carefully calculated pop aesthetic, combines visual elements typical of the glamour of the 50s and 60s with references to film noir, while the flat and saturated lighting refers to the editorial style. The protagonist -the artist herself- poses in a red vinyl dress, black wig and matching heels, in an ambiguous attitude that oscillates between provocation and disenchantment. This representation, however, does not seek to embody the myth, but to question it: what appears to be a confident and dominant figure is, in reality, a mask constructed from the gaze of others. The image stems from a personal anecdote with an older man in the art world, who attributed to the artist the role of "femme fatale" without seeing beyond the surface. In this context, the title is redefined as a veiled criticism of the male imaginary and as an affirmation of identity, claiming the right to choose when to play a role... and when to leave.
