Signing is a piece belonging to the series "The Signature", where Lídia Vives delves into the relationship between identity, vulnerability and self-defense. Through the self-portrait, the artist poses a reflection on the armor that we adopt throughout life - not always physical, but equally heavy. The work has been intervened with a digital drawing elaborated by the author herself, in which a baroque armor of vegetal inspiration is superimposed on her body. This symbolic element coexists with cobalt blue floral tattoos and a small red heart under the eye, elements that dialogue between the ornamental and the emotional. The handwritten text in the upper corner reinforces the intimate charge of the image: "Do you remember when you put on the armor for the first time?
the first time? I don't". As is often the case in her work, Lídia combines visual language with personal narratives, addressing themes such as violence, resistance, social judgment or empowerment. Signing
not only speaks of protection, but also of the wear and tear involved in sustaining that armor day after day.
day after day.
