Julio Álvarez began his professional career in the 1980s, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in contemporary photography and becoming a co-founder of Grupo 28. Throughout his career he has been able to combine his work as a professional photographer with an intense teaching activity, giving classes at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and at the renowned EFTI photography school in Madrid.
His work has been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally and is part of prominent public and private collections. Among them are reference institutions such as the Reina Sofía Museum, the IVAM and the Joan Miró Foundation. His work has also been included in numerous specialized publications, including the volume that Caja Madrid dedicated to him as part of the collection Fotógrafos del Siglo XX (No. 8), as well as editions of Cajastur.
