BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

MARGARET CHUTE (London, 1909 - Los Angeles, 1994).
"The G Sisters," 1925 photograph.
Black and white photograph.
2006 Lumas edition. Open edition. With label on the back.
Measurements: 20 x 15 cm.

Photographer Margaret Chute portrays in this image The G Sisters (also called The Sisters G), a 1920s artistic duo of Carla and Eleanor, active during the 1920s and 1930s. Like those of other photographers, Chute's snapshots were key in the construction of the Hollywood "star system".

Margaret Chute was an American writer, editor and screenwriter born in Brooklyn and educated at Barnard College, who developed part of her career in Hollywood working as a reader and editor of scripts, especially in the MGM environment; she achieved great notoriety as a novelist with Green Dolphin Street (1944), a historical novel set in nineteenth-century New Zealand that was a great success and was adapted to film in 1947 by the studio itself, consolidating her name in both the literary and film fields.
