Although he is recognized worldwide mainly as one of the most prolific art critics and curators of the twentieth century, Edward Lucie-Smith also has a facet as a photographer focused on the study of the body and form. His photography is characterized by a classicist and academic gaze, mostly focused on the male nude, where he uses the camera to explore the anatomy with a sensibility reminiscent of Greek sculpture and traditional drawing. Beyond capturing images, his importance in the world of photography lies in his work as a historian and disseminator, having written fundamental texts that have helped to legitimize photography as one of the fine arts. His visual work is, in essence, an extension of his vast theoretical knowledge: a search for formal beauty, light and balanced composition.
