FEDERICO GARCÍA LORCA (Fuente Vaqueros, Granada, 1898-Víznar to Alfacar, Granada, 1936).
"Federico García Lorca with Enrique Amorin in Carrasco (Uruguay)", 1934.
Original photograph.
Manuscript on the back.
Measurements: 8.5 x 11 cm.
This photograph taken in 1934, documents one of the most significant episodes of the last vital stage of Federico García Lorca. The image shows the meeting of the poet from Granada with Enrique Amorim during Lorca's trip to South America between 1933 and 1934, a tour that consolidated his international prestige after the success of his lectures, recitals and theatrical performances in Argentina and Uruguay.
Taken in the coastal town of Carrasco, the photograph testifies to the close intellectual and friendly relationship that Lorca maintained with prominent Latin American writers and artists. In those years, his figure was already a fundamental reference in Spanish-language literature, admired as much for the quality of his poetic and dramatic work as for his personal charisma.
Beyond its documentary value, this image has a special historical interest as it belongs to the last years of the poet's life, who died tragically in 1936 at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. As a testimony of his passage through America and of the cultural links that united creators on both sides of the Atlantic, the photograph is an evocative piece of one of the most influential personalities of 20th century literature.
