SUSY GOMEZ (Pollença, Mallorca, 1965).
“#211,” 2006.
Photograph.
Measurements: 240 x 180 cm.
The work up for auction is a clear example of Susy Gómez’s artistic vision, in which the exploration of identity, the spiritual dimension, and processes of personal transformation find expression in figures and symbols imbued with poetic resonance, situated in a delicate balance between the manifest and the veiled.
Susy Gómez studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona and, after completing her studies, held her first solo exhibition at the Norai Gallery in her hometown in 1987. Six years later, in 1993, her solo exhibition at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona generated great excitement. Her work is characterized by great technical versatility, encompassing painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, video, and installation. In 1995, she participated in the ARCO art fair, achieving a level of success that led to her inclusion in major group exhibitions both nationally and internationally, such as the Salón de los 16 that same year. Since then, she has held numerous solo exhibitions, both in Spanish cities and in Turin, Athens, and Nice, where she exhibited her work at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. In 1999, she was awarded the Endesa Fellowship, and the following year, the Centre del Carmen at the IVAM dedicated its first retrospective to her. Her work encompasses various approaches that continue the tradition of post-minimalism while also engaging with the most contemporary aesthetics. His work is part of the following collections at national and international institutions: Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid); Artium de Álava (Vitoria); Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (Valencia); Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma; Málaga Contemporary Art Center; Murugami Hirai Museum (Tokyo); Col·lecció Testimoni, Fundació “la Caixa” (Barcelona); L’Oreal Collection; Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain-Nice, among others.
