“Madrid Norte” is part of the photographic project Doble Espacio, presented in 2008 by Javier Berguizas and Raúl Urbina at Madrid-Barajas Airport, with sponsorship from the Aena Foundation. The project drew visual parallels between everyday spaces in Madrid and areas of the airport, exploring those seemingly secondary or overlooked aspects of urban architecture. In this image, the staircase and the shadows cast on the wall create a geometric structure that transforms a functional element into an almost abstract composition.

Javier Berguizas has focused much of his work on the observation of urban spaces, architecture, and places that typically go unnoticed. In 2010, he presented *Lugares no transitados* at the Andalusian Culture Foundation in Seville, an exhibition also dedicated to this exploration of marginal spaces and “non-places.”
