DESCRIPTION
Medal of the Provincial Council of Lima, Peru, XX century.
Gold, silver and enamel.
Measurements: 13 x 4,5 cm.
Weight: 50 g. (total).
Honorary distinction of the Provincial Council of Lima, made in gold and silver with polychrome enamel applications. It presents a radiated star of multiple points suspended from a golden yellow ribbon. In the central medallion appears the coat of arms of the city of Lima, surrounded by the inscription "Concejo Provincial de Lima".
The coat of arms reproduces the traditional elements granted to the city during the viceregal era: the heraldic eagles flanking the coat of arms, the star and the Latin motto "Hoc Signum Vere Regum Est" ("This is the true sign of the Kings"), linked to the feast of the Epiphany and the foundation of the City of the Kings, the original name of Lima.
This type of medal was used as an official decoration to recognize distinguished services, civic merits or relevant contributions to the city, constituting a representative sample of Lima's institutional symbology.
