JACQUES-CHARLES BRUNET (Paris, 1780-1867).
"Manuel du libraire et de l'amateur de livres".
Printed in Brussels, 1838, Hauman and Company.
5 volumes.
In good condition. With damp stains.
Measurements: 24 x 15 x 4 cm.
Contains, first of all, a new bibliographical dictionary, significantly enlarged, indicating the most valuable Books and the most useful Works, both ancient and modern, with notes on the different editions that have been made, and information necessary to recognize forgeries and to collate the ancient Books and the main printed works; we have added the concordance of the prices at which the rarest editions have been sold at public sales held during the last fifty years, and the approximate valuation of the antiquarian books to be found in the bookstore trade; secondly, a table in the form of a catalog of motifs. From this are methodically classified all the works indicated in the Dictionary, and a large number of other useful, but ordinarily priced works, which should not have been placed in the rank of precious books.
