BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Principles and succession of the kingdoms and kings and other states and lordships of Christendom, with their insignia.
Testimonial Publishing Company, facsimile number 276/980.
Limited and numbered edition.
Measurements: 53 x 40 x 10 cm.

Facsimile of the famous work "Principios y sucesión de los reinos y reyes y otros estados y señoríos de la cristiandad, con las insignias de ellos", preserved in the Library of the Royal Monastery of El Escorial. It consists of three volumes luxuriously bound in leather with gilt stampings, faithfully following the original design of the 16th century. The work was written between 1547 and 1548, and dedicated to Philip II.

This exceptional codex, also known as the "Book of Dynasties", presents a detailed historical and genealogical panorama of Europe, from the biblical figure of Noah to the emperor Charles V, structured through a prophetic and symbolic gaze typical of the late medieval tradition. It contains a total of 395 richly reproduced miniatures:

The text, in Latin and German, includes both biblical accounts and genealogies of the main European royal houses, illustrated with great detail and ornamentation. This is a unique edition, limited to 980 numbered and notarized copies, of which 55 were reserved for Patrimonio Nacional in Roman numeral and red ink. This copy corresponds to number 276.

This edition was produced by Testimonio Compañía Editorial in collaboration with Patrimonio Nacional, under the direction of César Olmos Pieri. Thanks to an artisan process of reproduction with the application of gold in each illustration, a faithful replica of the original manuscript, considered one of the great jewels of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, has been achieved.
