Sebastián de Covarrubias Orozco was a lexicographer, chaplain to the king, school teacher and canon of Cuenca, as well as a consultant to the Holy Office. His work "Emblemas morales" (1610) is considered one of the most important emblem books in Spain.
The work contains 300 emblems, each with an image, a motto or motto and an epigram or explanatory text, often with a moral or religious message.
Emblem books were popular in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries and combined art and literature to convey ideas and values.
