Jean-Louis de Fiesque, Count of Lavagna, is a historical figure known for his role in the Conjuration of Gian Luigi Fieschi. This Genoese nobleman, a member of the illustrious Fieschi family, led a failed conspiracy against the Doria family in Genoa.
The novel explores human weaknesses, even in those considered "great" or important. It focuses on the life and adventures of Jean-Louis de Fiesque, a count, and how his weaknesses influence the course of his existence.
