BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

The surgery of Juan Munnicks, accommodated to the practice of his times.
Valencia, Francisco Burguete, 1771.
In Spanish (translation from Latin).
In period flexible parchment, with handwritten lettering on the spine.
Complete edition in one volume.
Measurements: 21 x 15 x 4 cm.

Medical treatise entitled La cirugía de Juan Munnicks, a work by Dr. Juan Munnicks, physician and professor, adapted to the practice of his time and translated from Latin into Spanish by Bernardo Vicente de Cárcamo y Zeballos, also a doctor of medicine. The work was printed in Valencia in 1771 by Francisco Burguete, printer of the Holy Office, with the necessary licenses, as indicated on the title page.

The text proposes a practical synthesis of ancient and modern surgical doctrines, with a didactic and applied approach, typical of the enlightened medical literature of the 18th century. This type of work was intended both for the training of surgeons and for the updating of practicing professionals, at a time of progressive scientific systematization of medicine.

The copy preserves original period binding in flexible parchment, with evident signs of use and aging, typical of a work of frequent consultation. The spine has old handwritten labeling identifying the contents. Interior in reasonable condition, with laid paper, clear typography and presence of stains, darkening and small marginal defects consistent with its age. Complete title page, with ornamental typographic engraving and clearly legible imprint.

A work of notable historical and bibliographical interest, especially relevant for the study of the history of surgery and medicine in 18th century Spain. An attractive copy for collectors of antique medical books and specialized libraries, particularly because it is an illustrated edition due to its academic context and because it preserves the original period binding.
