Rafael Alberti is one of the essential figures of the Generation of '27, whose poetic work is characterized by the renewal of traditional forms and a deep connection with memory, the sea and the nostalgia of childhood.
Marinero en tierra, published in 1924, is his first book of poetry and one of the inaugural works of the Generation of 1927. This first edition marks the beginning of an exceptional literary career, which would soon place Alberti among the great names of contemporary Spanish poetry. The book was also awarded the Premio Nacional de Literatura, a recognition that contributed decisively to its initial projection.
The work revolves around the evocation of the lost sea, which has become a symbol of childhood, purity and emotional distance from the land of his birth. Through a language of popular roots and traditional metrical forms, Alberti achieves a poetry of great musicality, in which expressive simplicity coexists with a remarkable symbolic elaboration. The sea thus appears as the central axis of a lyrical universe marked by longing and idealization of the past.
From the literary point of view, Marinero en tierra represents a synthesis between tradition and modernity, a characteristic feature of the aesthetics of the 27th century. The influence of popular lyric poetry, together with the formal purification and avant-garde sensibility, make this book a key piece to understand the initial evolution of the author and the movement to which he belongs.
In bibliographic terms, the first edition of 1924 has a significant value because it is the debut work of one of the most important poets of the twentieth century in the Spanish language. Its relative scarcity and its status as a foundational text increase its interest for collectors, bibliophiles and researchers specialized in contemporary Spanish poetry.
