So let five years pass. Posthumous Poems is a work linked to the period of artistic maturity of Federico García Lorca, one of the most important writers of Spanish literature of the twentieth century. The first edition was published in 1938, two years after the author's death, which makes it a posthumous work of great literary and historical value. Due to its limited initial circulation and the political circumstances of the time, copies of this first edition are today extremely rare and highly prized by collectors and literary scholars.
The work Así que pasen cinco años is characterized by its symbolic complexity and the strong influence of surrealism. Unlike the author's more realistic pieces, this creation presents an innovative structure in which time, dreams and desires acquire a poetic and philosophical dimension. The story revolves around a young man who decides to postpone love for five years to fulfill a promise, but when the time comes, he discovers that time has transformed reality and made it impossible to fulfill his desires.
Through this plot, Lorca reflects on the impossibility of stopping the passage of time and on the fragility of human dreams. The characters move in a space where conventional logic is broken and where symbolic images, poetic dialogues and dreamlike situations predominate. The work deals with universal themes such as frustrated love, waiting, death, desire and the struggle between personal aspirations and the limitations imposed by reality.
From a stylistic point of view, the text represents one of the most audacious manifestations of Lorca's artistic experimentation. The author moves away from traditional forms to construct a work loaded with symbolism, metaphors and scenes that defy literal interpretation. This expressive richness has made Así que pasen cinco años a fundamental piece to understand the evolution of his thought and literary aesthetics.
Federico García Lorca (Fuente Vaqueros, Granada, 1898 - between Víznar and Alfacar, Granada, 1936) stood out as a poet, playwright and plastic artist. A member of the Generation of '27, he developed an innovative work that fused the Spanish popular tradition with the avant-garde currents of his time. His literary production was marked by a deep sensitivity to themes such as love, frustration, freedom and tragic destiny. His life was abruptly interrupted when he was shot during the first months of the Spanish Civil War.
