RAFAEL ALBERTI (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, 1902 - 1999).
"Poetry", 1924-1930 1st Edition, 1934.
Publisher: Cruz y raya, Madrid.
The book is dedicated by the poet Rafael Alberti to the Uruguayan writer Carlos Martínez Moreno in Montevideo October 1940.
Hardcover.
Measurements: 17 x 12 x 3.5 cm.
This volume of Poetry (1924-1930) by Rafael Alberti, published in its first edition in 1934 by the publishing house Cruz y Raya in Madrid, is a fundamental compilation of the first great creative period of the author, one of the greatest representatives of the Generation of 1927. The work brings together some of his most significant books, from the luminous lyricism of Marinero en tierra to the symbolic and visionary density of Sobre los ángeles, marking the evolution of his poetic language throughout a decisive decade.
The volume includes key titles such as La amante, El alba del alhelí, Cal y canto, Yo era un tonto y lo que he visto me ha hecho dos tontos, as well as the unpublished Sermones y moradas and Con los zapatos puestos tengo que morir, which allows us to appreciate the poet's transition from a poetry of popular and seafaring roots to an increasingly complex, avant-garde and strongly existential writing.
The edition also acquires an added historical and bibliographical value by preserving a handwritten dedication from Alberti himself to the Uruguayan writer Carlos Martínez Moreno, dated in Montevideo in October 1940, which links the copy to the poet's period of exile and his intense intellectual activity in Latin America.
As a whole, this volume not only brings together some of the most representative works of 20th century Spanish poetry, but also allows us to follow Alberti's vital and aesthetic trajectory in his transition from the avant-garde to a more introspective and committed poetry, becoming an essential testimony of his artistic evolution.
