VICENTE ALEIXANDRE (Seville, 1898-Madrid, 1984).

The first editions of Nacimiento último and Los encuentros are two fundamental pieces to understand the literary and human evolution of Vicente Aleixandre, one of the most relevant figures of Spanish poetry of the 20th century and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1977. Both works belong to a period of full creative maturity, in which the author deepened some of the essential concerns of his poetic universe: human solidarity, memory, love, nature and the search for a broader understanding of existence.
Published in Madrid by the publishing house Ínsula in 1953, Nacimiento último represents one of the peaks of Aleixandre's mature stage. Integrated in the poetry collection of the publishing house as number XV, this first edition reflects the progressive evolution of his writing towards a more refined and meditative expression. In his poems, the author explores the relationship between the human being and the world, addressing themes such as time, vital renewal and the profound meaning of human experience. The lyrical intensity and imaginative richness that characterize all his work reach here a remarkable harmony, making this book an essential reference within his poetic production.
The copy preserves its original covers and the editorial binding in illustrated white cover, elements that maintain the bibliographic appeal of this edition and place it among the most representative publications of Ínsula's prestigious publishing work during the Spanish postwar period.
Los encuentros, published in 1958 by Editorial Guadarrama, is a singular work in Aleixandre's bibliography. Halfway between literary memory, human portrait and autobiographical evocation, the book gathers a series of texts dedicated to writers, artists and friends who were part of the author's intellectual life. More than mere semblances, these pages offer a deeply personal vision of some of the most important figures of 20th century Spanish culture, portrayed with sensitivity, admiration and an extraordinary capacity for observation.
The edition is enriched with thirty-nine full-page drawings by Ricardo Zamorano, whose illustrations dialogue with the texts and contribute an outstanding artistic value to the whole. The copy preserves its original paperback binding with original covers, showing a damp stain on the upper and lower areas of the spine, a sign of use and age that does not diminish its interest as a first edition of a work especially appreciated by scholars and collectors.
Taken together, these two first editions offer a valuable perspective of Vicente Aleixandre's creative breadth. While Nacimiento último reflects the fullness of his poetic voice, Los encuentros reveals his more human and memorialistic dimension, bringing the reader closer to the intellectual environment that marked a decisive period in Spanish literature. Because of their literary relevance, their status as first editions and their link to one of the great poets of the 20th century, both volumes are of considerable interest to collectors, researchers and lovers of contemporary poetry.
