Published in 1926 by Editorial Nascimento of Santiago de Chile, Anillos is one of the most unique and least known works of Pablo Neruda's early creative years, made in collaboration with his friend Tomás Lago, a prominent writer, cultural researcher and future director of the Museum of Popular Arts of Chile. This first edition represents a valuable testimony of the aesthetic quests of the Chilean literary avant-garde of the 1920s.
Far from the traditional poetic structure, Anillos gathers twenty pieces of lyrical prose in which both authors experiment with language, image and modern sensibility. The book is situated at a decisive moment of artistic renewal, when European avant-garde influences began to dialogue with new forms of Latin American expression. His texts display an evocative writing, full of symbolism, musicality and free associations, where the contemplation of objects, landscapes and moods acquires a novel poetic dimension.
The collaboration between Neruda and Lago reveals a rare intellectual and aesthetic affinity. While the former began the path that would make him one of the most influential voices in universal poetry, the latter developed a deep concern for art, popular culture and Chilean identity. The result is a work of great interest for understanding the processes of literary experimentation that characterized a generation of writers determined to expand the limits of artistic creation.
The reviewed copy corresponds to the rare first edition of 1926, published by Nascimento, one of the most important publishers in the diffusion of Chilean literature of the 20th century. It retains its original covers in excellent condition, an element especially valued by collectors and bibliophiles, and presents a later restoration in hard cover with elegant gilt lettering on the spine, an intervention that has contributed to its preservation without undermining its historical value.
Due to its scarce presence in the market, the relevance of its authors and its condition as an early work within Pablo Neruda's career, Anillos is a bibliographic piece of great interest for specialized collectors, scholars of the Hispanic American avant-garde and admirers of Chilean literature. Its rarity and material quality make this first edition a particularly prized copy of Neruda's bibliographic heritage.
