This set of first editions of works by Pablo Neruda gathers three titles representative of one of the stages of greatest creative plenitude of the author: Las uvas y el viento (1954), Viajes (1955) and Nuevas odas elementales (1964). Published between the 1950s and 1960s, these books allow us to appreciate the thematic and stylistic breadth of a poet who knew how to combine personal experience, observation of the world and humanist commitment with an extraordinary expressive richness.
Las uvas y el viento, published by Editorial Nascimento in 1954, arises from the numerous international trips made by Neruda during those years. In its pages, the poet transforms his travels through different countries into a lyrical reflection on the peoples, cultures and great events of his time, offering a cosmopolitan vision marked by solidarity and hope.
Published the following year, Travels extends this itinerant dimension of his work, bringing together texts where the experience of travel becomes a source of knowledge, discovery and contemplation. The book reveals Neruda's ability to turn geography and memory into poetic matter, linking landscapes, cities and human encounters with a profoundly sensitive gaze.
Nuevas odas elementales, published by Editorial Losada in Buenos Aires in 1964, represents one of the most celebrated facets of his production. In these compositions, the author pays homage to everyday objects, nature and the small events of daily life, elevating them to the category of universal symbols through a clear, accessible and musical language.
Taken together, these first editions constitute a valuable testimony of Neruda's literary evolution and the diversity of registers that characterize his work. In addition to their bibliographic interest, the lot allows us to explore some of the essential themes of his poetry: the journey, the celebration of life, fraternity among peoples and the ability to find beauty and meaning in the simplest realities.
