BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Mexican viceregal work, XVIII century.
Wooden chest with inlaid wood and silver applications.
Measurements 20 x 26 x 19 cm.
The following piece is a perfect example of the quality of Mexican gold and silver work during the viceregal period. The delicate work inlaid in wooden plaques is reminiscent of the magnificent enconchados of this same period. The edges are decorated with chiseled silver moldings as well as the keyhole with a double-headed eagle and the feet with lion claws and winged putti faces. The interior has a velvet lining on the back.
