BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Set of four fernandina period chairs, first half of the 19th century.
Walnut wood. Seats of bulrush.
One of the chairs needs restoration (the back joints are open).
Measurements: 88,5 x 44,5 x 44,5 cm.
This set of four Fernandine chairs is distinguished by its taste for curves. Each of the chairs stands on four legs joined together by chambranes. The front legs, of marked curvature, see their continuity in the trimmed waist of the same, as well as in their back, also trimmed. The bulrush seats contrast with the polished finish of the walnut wood.
The Fernandine style is the style developed in the decorative arts -especially furniture- in Spain during the reign of Ferdinand VII (1814-1833). It succeeded the Empire style and preceded the Elizabethan style.
