Modernist ceiling lamp, ca.1900.
In wrought iron and rock crystal.

Both in type of materials and style, this ceiling lamp is fully modernist. Made of wrought iron, it has a central body richly ornamented with foliate motifs and dragons hanging from chains of thick links that connect. This drum has openwork elements in the form of stylized leaves. The lower part is composed of a hemispherical dome of rock crystal, assembled in small square-shaped translucent fragments, which form a luminous grid. These crystals subtly reflect the light and give the piece a precious, handcrafted appearance. The use of rock crystal adds texture, natural color variation and brilliance.

The curved arms are topped with dragons that, like gargoyles, hold the lampshades, also openwork. The fantastic creatures evoke the modernist taste for the fantastic and the symbolic.
