DESCRIPTION
Pair of MULLER FRÈRES sconces. Lunéville, ca. 1930
Nickel-plated bronze and pressed glass.
Signed.
Measurements: 25 x 34 x 6 cm.
Pair of Art Deco sconces made by the famous house Muller Frères Lunéville around 1930, at the height of French decorative design between the wars. The pieces present a balanced architectural composition, characteristic of the style, where geometry and ornamental stylization coexist in perfect harmony.
The pressed and satin-finished glass shade, richly worked with a stylized geometric and floral relief, filters the light in a soft and enveloping way. The subtle yet sophisticated decoration creates a play of light and shadow that reinforces the sculptural character of the ensemble.
The sconces are mounted on a nickel-plated bronze structure, with angular and refined lines that emphasize the modern aesthetics of the Art Deco period. The contrast between the metallic shine of the support and the milky translucency of the glass provides a refined and timeless presence.
The firm Muller Frères, based in Lunéville, was one of the major players in French art glass at the beginning of the 20th century. Initially linked to Art Nouveau, the house evolved with great success towards Art Deco, specializing in luminaires, vases and decorative objects. His creations are distinguished by the masterful use of glass, and the quality of the finishes.
