BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GEORGES LELEU (France, 1883-1961).
Ceiling lamp. Model V2251, ca. 1930
Nickel-plated bronze and pressed glass.
Attached catalog documentation.
Measurements: 110 x 75 x 75 cm.

Elegant ceiling lamp designed around 1930 by Maison Leleu, one of the most refined names of French Art Deco. The V2251 model combines a nickel-plated bronze structure with pressed and decorated glass lampshades, organized in an octagonal composition of great geometric balance.

The piece fully responds to the Art Deco language: stylized vertical lines in the suspension, architectural upper finial and lower body structured by metal ribs and pearl motifs that frame the glass panels. The lampshades, with engraved plant-inspired decoration and stylized shells, soften the geometric severity of the ensemble and generate a warm and diffuse play of light.

The alternation between the technical coldness of the metal and the textural richness of the worked glass creates a sophisticated and monumental effect, characteristic of Parisian interwar interiors. Its scale (110 cm high) reinforces its architectural vocation, designed for lounges or representative lobbies.

Jules and later Georges Leleu consolidated the firm as one of the great French decorative houses, participating in the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs of 1925 and collaborating in high-level official and residential projects. This documented model is an excellent example of the balance between structural modernity and handcrafted luxury that defined the house's production in the 1930s.
