DESCRIPTION
Pair of mirrors, Italy, XVIII century.
In carved wood, gilded and polychrome.
Measurements: 48 x 37 cm.
They present faults in the polychrome.
This pair of mirrors is an excellent example of Italian decorative refinement of the late Baroque period or early neoclassicism. They are made of carved, gilded and polychromed wood. The design presents a technique of imitation lacquer or "arte povera" very popular in 18th century Italy, with delicate gilded floral motifs on a dark background (black polychrome). The upper carved crest with a large acanthus leaf in gilded relief that falls on the frame, providing a great visual dynamism.
