BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Pair of Renaissance style hammocks, 1950s.
Ebonized wood.
Measurements: 90 x 54 x 41 cm (x2).

Pair of hams from the 50's, carved in wood. Historically the jamuga has its origin in the Nasrid world of the Kingdom of Granada. In the Hispano-Muslim tradition it was common to sit on the floor, on large cushions and carpets. However, some elements of the palace furniture were also available for this purpose. The Royal Spanish Academy defines jamuga as a saddle that is placed on the rigging of horses to transport distinguished women. In the Castilian inventories of the 15th century it also appears under the name of saddle of hips. The current name of jamuga could be a dialectal perduration. It also has a very specific structure. It is a double scissor saddle that can be folded to adapt to the shape of the horse.
