The denarius, originally a Roman silver coin, was adopted and imitated by various communities in the Iberian Peninsula during the process of contact and integration with the Roman world, especially between the second and first centuries B.C. In the case of Ikalkusken, as in other Iberian enclaves, these coins reflect a cultural and economic transition, where local populations incorporated Roman monetary systems adapting them to their own identity.
The coins attributed to Ikalkusken usually present iconography characteristic of the Iberian sphere: on the obverse, stylized male heads, often with idealized features; and on the reverse, figures such as horsemen with spears, symbols of prestige and warrior power. There are also inscriptions in Iberian signario, which identify the mint or issuing community.
