The real was one of the fundamental units of the Spanish monetary system from the Middle Ages until the 19th century, and during the reign of Ferdinand VII (1808-1833) it continued to play an essential role in the daily economy. The 2-real coins, known as "reales de a dos", were commonly used in daily transactions and were part of a broader system that included multiples such as the peso or duro.
This period was marked by great political and economic instability, especially as a result of the Spanish War of Independence, which also affected monetary production, with mintages made in different mints and under different conditions.
