During the late Middle Ages, the royal stamps or seals played an essential role in the validation of official documents, privileges and correspondence of the chancellery. Beyond their practical utility, these seals were a powerful symbol of authority, representing the legitimacy of the monarch and his capacity to govern. In the case of Alfonso the Magnanimous, ruler of the Crown of Aragon in the 15th century, his reign was marked by Mediterranean expansion and the strengthening of the Aragonese presence in territories such as Naples.
