The drachma was a monetary unit of Greek origin that spread widely throughout the Mediterranean thanks to trade. In the case of Sagunto, a city with intense cultural and commercial contacts with Greek colonizers, Hellenistic monetary typologies were adopted, both in weight and designs. The Saguntine coinage used to present characteristic iconography, such as heads of divinities, heroes or local symbols, reflecting a mixture of indigenous and Greek influences.
