DESCRIPTION
Reproduction of a Charles I Ducat; 20th century.
Gold 18 k.
Certificate enclosed.
Measurements: 22 mm (diameter).
Weight: 6.48 g.
This type of numismatic recreations are usually inspired by the original coinage of the 16th century, when, under the mandate of Charles I (also Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire), a monetary system based on precious metals was consolidated, reflecting the economic and political power of the Hispanic monarchy.
The original ducats were high purity gold coins, widely used in international trade. On them it was common to find the effigy of the monarch or heraldic symbols, such as the imperial coat of arms with the arms of Castile, Leon, Aragon and other territories, as well as Latin legends proclaiming royal authority.
