DESCRIPTION
Pair of Japanese vases Meiji period, nineteenth century.
Patinated bronze.

Measurements: 47 x 23 x 23 cm. the largest.
Pair of Japanese bronze vases. The globular bodies present in all their surface decorations in relief, occupying the central part a group of tropical birds. They are placed in leafy landscapes and above them a line of clouds is drawn, represented in a synthesized and sinuous way, as it was usual in traditional Japanese paintings. One of the birds, with its beautifully chiseled plumage, is craning its neck as if reacting to some unexpected encounter. At the base of the vases, the seabed is depicted. In this way, we can read in the different levels of the world: the underwater, the earth and the sky (in the upper part of the neck).
