19th century cornucopia

Cornucopia; XIX century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Presents faults in the gilding.
It has a mirror of later period.
Measurements: 90 x 60 cm.
The one we present here presents a mixtilinear frame, with moldings finished off in stylized vegetal elements. In the lower end, the sides and the top, these moldings are enriched in profusion. The cornucopias were rich mirrors to which candle holders were added, so that the light from the candles would be multiplied by being reflected on their surface. They were especially used in the Baroque period, during the 17th century and most of the 18th century. Since they were representative pieces of furniture, they were made of richly carved and gilded wood, and their frames were decorated with a multitude of delicate motifs in relief.
