BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Two compasses of the 17th century.
In wrought iron.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: 50 x 16 x 3 cm. the larger one.
These two pieces are a testimony of the technical instrumentation of a pre-industrial era, where craftsmanship and robust functionality were paramount. Their wrought iron construction gives them an imposing presence and exceptional durability. One of them has an adjustment arch. The other, of considerable dimensions, has a design that adheres to the classic shape of a dry-ended compass, with two straight, elongated arms that converge at a pivot joint.
