This 18th century jewelry box exudes the opulence and sophistication of the Ottoman Empire. Its design is robust and delicate at the same time, seated on small legs that elevate it slightly. It is completely covered with intricate inlay, where wood is combined with tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl inlays. Geometric designs are the soul of its decoration, alternating with stylized vegetal elements on the lid. Patterns of diamonds and triangles are intertwined with rhythmic fretwork. The combination of pearly iridescence and deep tortoiseshell tones, along with the perfection of the designs, underscores the mastery of the Turkish craftsmen of the time. When opened, the interior reveals a delicate marbled paper lining and a mirror on the inside of the lid.
