DESCRIPTION
Art Nouveau dressing mirror, House WMF. Germany, ca. 1905.
In silver-plated metal.
Wooden stand.
With stamped marks of the manufacturer.
Measurements: 36,5 x 28 cm.
Art Nouveau dressing table mirror by WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik) made of silver plated metal. It is embossed with coups-de-fouet developing in vegetable motifs in the corners and with a leafy tree under which has been worked in relief the stylized figure of a woman who is observed in the mirror. The fluid and delicate lines of the whole are genuinely modernist, in the style of the masters Rennie Mackintosh and Alphonse Mucha.
WMF stands for Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, which means Württemberg Metal Factory. Renowned on the German scene in the late 19th and early 20th century, the factory was established in 1880 in the small town of Geislingen on the river Steige.
