DESCRIPTION
Pair of mirrors Louis XV style; France or Spain, second half of the eighteenth century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Measurements: 28 x 18 cm; 44 x 27 cm (frame).
Pair of Louis XV style mirrors, probably made in France or Spain during the second half of the 18th century. These pieces, worked in carved and gilded wood, faithfully represent the Rococo aesthetic, characterized by its asymmetrical elegance and organic ornamentation.
Both frames show a design of undulating and flowing lines, with abundant details of scrolls, leaves, and flowers in relief, typical elements of the rococo decorative repertoire. At the top, a delicate spiral floral finial adds dynamism and a theatrical touch, while in the corners and lower edges, vegetal motifs intertwine harmoniously.
The gilding, although worn by time, retains its visual richness, contributing to the refined and sumptuous character of the objects. The mirrors themselves show signs of oxidation and deterioration from the gilding, reinforcing their authenticity and antiquity.
Their twinned design suggests that they were conceived as a decorative ensemble, possibly flanking a console or fireplace.
