DESCRIPTION
Document case; France, XVIII century.
Wood and leather.
Preserves key.
Measurements: 25 x 34 x 14 cm.
French document case, dated XVIII century. The piece is made of wood covered in embossed and decorated leather, which suggests not only a functional use but also a high degree of aesthetic refinement, typical of the aristocratic or bourgeois taste of the time. The case has a trapezoidal profile with a slanted lid that recalls the shape of a portable desk. The wooden structure has been carefully covered with worked leather, decorated with vegetal motifs stamped in gold and black, probably using the technique of fire gilding with ferros. The decoration follows symmetrical patterns of rococo or late-baroque inspiration, with scrolls and floral elements that give the piece an elegant and reserved character.
