DESCRIPTION
Pair of obelisks, twentieth century.
Wood and marbled paper.
Measurements: 112 cm (height).
Pair of obelisks decorated with marbled paper on a wooden structure. This handcrafted technique seeks to imitate the appearance of hard stones and expensive marbles. The shaft is covered with a paper of bluish and greenish tones with golden or white veins, probably imitating malachite or an exotic marble such as verde antico. The cubic base is marbled in gray and black tones, simulating granite or gray marble, which gives visual "weight" and stability to the whole. The shape of the obelisk is a direct legacy of Ancient Egypt, recovered by the Renaissance and Neoclassicism. In interior decoration, obelisks symbolize wisdom, stability and eternity.
