Modeled after CLAUDE MICHEL CLODION (1738-1814). France, ca. 1900

Belgian black marble pedestals.

Measurements. 44 x 14 x 14 cm (each one).
This elegant pair of decorative cups in patinated bronze is fully inscribed in the French neoclassical tradition, made in the manner of Clodion, one of the great sculptors of the eighteenth century, famous for his compositions of bacchantes, nymphs and Dionysian scenes in relief.
The cups have a classic krater shape, with an ovoid body raised on a molded foot, and are topped by lateral scroll handles, inspired by models of Greco-Roman antiquity. The body is richly decorated in high relief with scenes of nude figures of bacchante inspiration. The modeling is fluid and sensual, with special attention to the movement of the bodies and the idealized anatomy, characteristic features of the Chlodionesque language.
