DESCRIPTION
Frame; Italy, XVIII century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Measurements: 85 x 72 x 7 cm; 64 x 51 cm.
Eighteenth century Italian frame made of carved and gilded wood, representative of the decorative elegance widespread in Italian artistic circles during the eighteenth century. The piece presents a molded structure of balanced and refined profiles, enriched by a delicate vegetal ornamentation carved in relief that runs around the outer and inner perimeter of the frame. Particularly noteworthy is the rhythmic succession of stylized leaves and pearly motifs that enliven the composition without falling into decorative excess, reflecting the taste for restrained elegance characteristic of much of eighteenth-century Italian production.
The work combines elements inherited from the late baroque with a progressive formal simplification already close to rococo and neoclassical sensibilities.
