BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Two electric locomotives: GEBRÜDER BING, Germany,
Stamped metal.
They exhibit sligthly wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: 10 x 20 x 6 cm.
Set of two train sets manufactured by Gebrüder Bing, one of the leading German companies dedicated to the production of mechanical toys and model trains. This piece belongs to the tradition of tin toy trains, a genre that achieved extraordinary popularity in Europe from the late 19th century onward and made the railroad one of the major themes of children’s material culture.
The Gebrüder Bing company, founded in Nuremberg in 1863, gained particular recognition for the quality of its tin toys, trains, mechanisms, and technical objects. For decades, Nuremberg was one of Europe’s leading centers for toy manufacturing, and the city’s industrial tradition fostered a close relationship between engineering, metallurgy, and the toy industry. Bing’s production stood out precisely for transforming objects associated with the modern world—trains, cars, ships, and machines—into elaborate toys designed for home entertainment.
