The model reproduces an electric locomotive from the SNCF (French National Railway Company) BB 8100 series, one of the main series of electric locomotives in postwar France. They were used on both passenger and freight trains and became one of the defining images of the modernization of the French railway system in the decades following World War II.
The JEP brand, short for Jouet de Paris, was one of the most important French manufacturers of mechanical and electric toys during the first half of the 20th century. The company gained particular notoriety for its electric trains, manufactured in various scales and featuring a wide variety of locomotives, cars, tracks, and accessories.During the 1930s, 1940s, and especially the 1950s, JEP developed increasingly elaborate models that closely resembled real locomotives in appearance.
